TOUR DETAILS FOR SUMMER 2020

A two-hour flight from Reykjavik will take you to Greenland’s beautiful East Coast, home of the Ammassalik Inuit. Kulusuk is the gateway to East Greenland and the small settlement is an excellent introduction to the way of life in a settlement in the Ammassalik area.

Kulusuk lies on a small rocky island between saw-toothed mountains and extensive fjords, and it is almost always surrounded by icebergs and the glittering Arctic Ocean. In Kulusuk you will find some of the east coast’s most skilful craftsmen, whose tupilaks are of exceptional quality.

The beauty of the country’s natural wilderness, combined with the Inuit cultural experience, may very well mean that your visit to Greenland will rank as one of your most cherished memories. The tour guide meets you are Kulusuk airport on arrival in Greenland and will escort you on a 45-60 minutes walk to the engaging village Kulusuk. Stroll around the village, visit the tiny museum and church, meet some of the 360 local residents and view their quality crafts. The day excursions from Reykjavík to Kulusuk takes about 8 hours; your stay in East Greenland will be 4 hours. A certificate of the visit is available.

Highlights & Experience

Guided Tour in Kulusuk:
An English-speaking tour guide awaits you at Kulusuk airport. It is a 45-60 minute (3 km/1.86 miles) walk from the airport to Kulusuk village. No transportation is available. Therefore you must be reasonably fit to master the walk partly through snow and natural terrain. We highly recommend to bring good walking shoes along and a day bag with something to drink (can be bought in the duty-free store at Reykjavik airport after you pass the security check) and a picnic lunch or snacks. It is not always possible to purchase food & beverage at the local supermarket in Kulusuk. You stay for about 4 hours in East Greenland.

Arriving at the village, we will visit the tiny local museum that provides insights into the Inuit life. As we walk through the village, we often get to greet the locals, and if we are lucky, we will see a demonstration of the traditional Greenlandic drum dance. Before we head back to the airport (boat tour optional and only bookable on location, if available), we will visit the beautiful Kulusuk Church.

Note: We recommend that all travellers wear good walking boots as this tour requires around 6 km/3,7 miles round-trip walk. June, in particular, can be wet. Please be aware of bringing Danish currency, as it is not possible to use a debit card in Kulusuk. Passport and Schengen visa is required when travelling to Greenland.
